In Awaken Ministries our Intercessors are our foundation-strengtheners, our prayer warriors who bless us by: standing in the gap for us; and placing us in a position to receive all He has for us!   No ministry, assembly or child of God can function without the ministry of Intercession!

It is prayer that sets the Hand of God in motion!

Intercession (Hebrew for intercession ‘PAGA’: means ‘to meet’ or ‘boundary’)
Intercession creates meetings between God and people.
Establish a boundary satan can’t cross.

Mediate – To negotiate between persons with the goal to reconcile or bring together.
Intercessor – Prayer Representative of Christ in the body of Christ, a sent one that establishes a meeting between God and His people.

An Intercessor is a mediator that builds a prayer bridge between God and His people. So many times people are so overwhelmed by circumstances that they need someone to connect with the Lord and set the hand of God in motion.
Jesus is the greatest intercessor between us and Father God. Jesus is interceding/mediating for us so that we can pray!

1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,  NKJV

True Intercessors are led by the Holy Spirit and following His prompting they act in prayer! They are willing to pray anytime and anywhere! They are anytime prayer warriors!
Through His own life, Jesus Christ showed (and taught) us the importance of prayer, and by following in His footsteps we can also experience the power of prayer. In Matt 6 Christ taught His disciples to pray. His disciples didn’t ask Jesus how to preach better or how to heal the sick; they asked Him to teach them how to pray. They realised that prayer moves the Hand of Father.

For Spiritual growth that changes people’s lives, spiritual Authority needs to be exercised. This authority is released by intercession. Not only does this act of worship release Holy Spirits power, it also displays Christ’s mighty glory and brings down walls and principalities of satan. Intercession releases Godly Authority and Power.

Cecilia Flanagan (Intercessor leader)

Our motivation for intercession flows out of our love for Christ and His people! We as intercessors believe we need to carefully hear from Holy Spirit what to pray for and to always have Biblical backing for what we expect from our prayer! Intercession is standing in the gap between God Almighty and people with a lot of shortcomings.  Even if you are a General in the Army of God and pray yourself, there will be times when you will be so overwhelmed by situations, circumstances or work that you do not have the strength or time to pray with the right force needed. This is where you need someone else to carry and stand in the gap for you in prayer.

Ezek 22:30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. NKJV

Each prayer sets something in motion!

James 5:16 ‘The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. AMP

Karen Wright (Intercessor)

An intercessor stands in the gap for someone, connecting them with the Lord when they are unable to do it themselves. It is that person that gets up in the middle of the night or early mornings to pray for the people Holy Spirit placed in their hearts to pray for! What did Jesus do? Jesus prayed regularly!! In John 17 Jesus understood the peace and guidance that comes through prayer! In Matt 6 He taught His disciples the importance of prayer! 1 Thess 5:17 says ‘pray continually’. Jesus Himself said that whatever we ask in His name we will receive. Because our fight is not a physical one but against evil spirits we need to pray for each other! To intercede changes lives, it saves lives and it releases breakthroughs! We need to carry each other in prayer because we need each other in the body of Christ!

I believe Christ Jesus is leading the body of Christ into paga ‘intercession’ through prayer: to connect the body of Christ with Him through prayer and to create a platform for the Holy Spirit to move! It’s time to use the mighty weapon of intercession prayer given to us by Christ and to rebuild the walls of the body of Christ. Intercession is one of the core ministries in Awaken! Why? The continuous prayers from our intercession ministry connect us directly with the Father!

1 Thess 5:16-18 ‘Be joyful always;  pray continually;  give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.’ NIV

Intercession and the Acts Assembly

Christ Jesus just before He ascended into heaven, commanded His disciples not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the promised Holy Spirit! They returned to Jerusalem and went to the upper room and temple, where they ‘continued with one accord in prayer and supplication’. It was their unity and prayer that released the Power of Holy Spirit upon them! Fervent and persistent prayer made to God will open prison doors, break chains and bring freedom!

Acts 1:14 ‘These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.’ NKJV
Acts 12:5 ‘So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent prayer for him was persistently made to God by the church (assembly).’ AMP

“The Church should sent teams of intercessors into some of the darkest countries upon the earth for the sole purpose of prayer – creating meetings between God our Father and humanity – divine connections through human prayer” Dutch Sheet

For any assembly that gathers there are guidelines to growth; and intercession prayer is one crucial and important part of it!
